D: It’s called a rhinoceros beetle. Do you know?

B: Show mommy the rhinoceros beetle.

D: This isn’t your rhinoceros beetle!? I thought it was your rhinoceros beetle. Is it your beetle?
B: Yes.
D: Mmm. We got a name yet?
B: No.
D: What do they eat?
B: They eat jelly.
D: They eat jelly. Okay. Who is eating the most jelly?
B: Um. The boy.
D: It’s not the boy, is it? It’s the girl. It’s the girl rhinoceros beetle that’s eating the most. It’s got its head in there. Look at that. It’s got its head in the jelly.
B: She’s all jelly. She’s going to get all jelly ‘darake’ (Japanese for ‘covered in’)
D: Yeah. She’s gonna be covered in jelly. She’s gonna be covered in jelly, isn’t she? She’s just like you – a messy eater. Are you a messy eater?
B: No.
D: You are.
B: No.
D: You do. You get jelly all over your face too, don’t you?
B: No.
D: Yes, you do. Daddy’s seen it.

D: He’s got big horns, hasn’t he? Can you see these big horns.
B: Yes.
M: You can touch the horns? It doesn’t do anything?
D: No. It’s not sharp or anything.
M: You can touch the horns. Do you want to touch the horns?
B: No.
M: Ewan!
B: I think horns are dangerous.
M: I don’t think so.
D: Really?
B: He’s going to hook your……
M: Girls have a hook (on their feet) too?
D: Mmm?
M: Girls?
D: Yeah.
B: Wait. It doesn’t know which way it has to go.
D: Mmm. He’s going to go back, isn’t he? I think he found me.
B: Uhoh!

B: Hello kabuto mushi (Japanese for rhino beetle)
D: That’s a rhinoceros beetle.
B: Rhinoceros beetle.
M: Touch, touch!
D: He’s all sad because you don’t stroke him.
B: Whoah! He’s scared.
M: I think Ewan’s scared. Not him.
D: Yeah. Ewan is a scaredy cat!
